Background

I first arrived in Israel in 1969 following a long journey while looking for a new home.  America of that period, steeped in the turbulence of a protracted foreign war I wanted no part of, didn’t seem to have a place for me.  After traveling through Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia, happenstance brought me to Israel.  Although my “homeland”, I didn’t know it yet.  Over the next eight years, it dug its pioneer roots into my soul.

This trip to Israel, almost forty years later, is a return, a rediscovery of what that pull is all about.  It feels to me like the last chapter in a life full of wanderings.
